ei Independent Energy
ei Independent Energy is a new spin-off focused on energy decentralized, 100% owned by Galp (the largest energy company in our Portuguese neighbor). The Challenge
Define and build the technological foundations aligned with culture of the company.
When you participate in the birth of a company you cannot take anything for granted, everything starts from scratch, and more in the situation in which we get up in the middle of the confinement due to COVID19 (April 2020). Many things are necessary to have the minimums in order to launch a new company: aspects legal, financial, operational, cultural, technological and business. From the outset, ei has fully opted for technology, a mindset experimental, transparency and innovation. In the initial phases, we proposed the challenge of defining and building the technological architecture jointly. We were looking for a powerful, updated and attractive stack, to lay the bases for quality software development and having a scalable system based on the cloud and under a devops mindset. Not only that, we had to build the MVPs necessary for the launch of the company and collaborate in the creation and adoption of processes, methodologies and teams humans. And with a first big milestone in mind: in June 2020 we would do the soft launch of ei.
The Solution
Create systems core through APIs using agile methodologies and lean concepts to promote multiproduct development.
It has created its own architecture called Hedy, which is capable of ingesting a large volume of information and process it, in addition to orchestrating as APIs in different processes regardless of the channel being used depending on your functionality. The construction and use of Hedy has been a determining factor in improving the time-to-market, being used in bulk of the core applications of ei. They have used agile methodologies and lean principles which has allowed us to validate our hypotheses and adapt technological products based on feedback from first real customers. On the other hand, we also collaborate in the creation of the company culture: it has been very motivating to work so hand in hand with i, with values of both companies fully aligned and a fully motivated and collaborative human team. This we has allowed the formation of mixed development teams in which everyone feels part of ei.

8 months later, we are proud to tell the path we have traveled together and how it has become one of the main players in its sector. We have laid the technological and methodological foundations of ei, resulting in a to work with that we feel comfortable and that also works great. I know have formed 4 fully operational and autonomous development teams, whose objective It is not to give service to business and product, but to co-create with them. And not least, we have put technology at the service of ei, to be able to offer its customers the best photovoltaic solutions with a simple process, generating a clear, precise and reliable value proposition. Value for customer, for ei and for the planet, supported by a scalable, sustainable business model that take a step forward in the energy transition.
